live, work & create authentically!

Amber Copeland

I envision a future where artists and creatives trust that living their uniqueness will lead to a sense of satisfaction, success and peace. As a professional ballroom dancer, I tried to force my way to success. I put so much pressure on myself to build my career at lightening speed that I broke my body. Ultimately, a debilitating illness ended my competitive ballroom dance career.Looking back, I can see how I got lost in my mind's 'shoulds'. I made a lot of decisions that didn't feel right for me and my body. I did what I thought I had to do to succeed. I wasn't aware that I could feel successful just by allowing my path to naturally unfold at a healthy pace for me.Two fields of knowledge helped me return to myself - Human Design and Laban. Human Design helped me reconnect with my own authority that had been lost due to the conditioning and societal expectations that we all face from birth. Laban Effort work helped me reconnect with my natural expression that had been suppressed after growing up in an emotionally controlled environment.I see so many frustrated, bitter, angry, disappointed artists and creatives out there - many of whom have health issues. I want to help them understand how they can make authentic decisions by trusting their own authority. I want to help them see that they just need to trust the natural unfolding of their unique journey.I want to help artists and creatives live, work and create authentically!

Movement Coaching

As a Certified Movement Analyst (Laban/Bartenieff), I use Laban Effort Work to help artists and creatives expand their expressive range, while staying grounded in their authentic self.Through movement, I help artists to first identify their authentic expressive signature, so they can anchor themselves in their authentic expression. Then I help them to tap into a wider range of expression that they aren't used to accessing on a regular basis.Reserved artists learn how to reach far beyond their expressive comfort zone, without feeling fake. Highly expressive artists learn how to anchor themselves, so they don't lose themselves in expressive energies.Embodiment sessions are beneficial for actors, dancers, musicians and any other expressive performing artists. Performance and/or practice video analysis will be used to help you see and embody expressive Laban Effort qualities.Expressive Embodiment sessions are done online via Zoom.To watch clips of Amber's personal expressive work as an actor and ballroom dancer, click here: Amber's Demo Reels

SUCCESS STORIES

Over the years Amber's had the opportunity to successfully advise clients in mind and body. Here are a few of their success stories:

Amber's career guidance sessions have, literally, been a life saver for me. When I came to Amber for BG5 sessions, I was in a lot of ways, a total mess. I knew I had a lot of talents but felt as if all my professional efforts amounted to barking up the wrong trees. I was also hemorrhaging money and felt emotionally and physically depleted.
Through Amber's masterful insight I have been able to see where my activities are meaningful and right for me and where they are incongruent and ineffective. In this, I have been able to recognize the real opportunities that allow me to fulfill my talents. Amber has helped me learn to trust my inner resources, and because of this I have been the more at peace with my professional life than ever.
The amazing thing is that, although there are still many real and significant challenges which I face professionally, the stress has disappeared. I can enjoy the twists and turns in the journey with more ease and interest.

-Sebastian, Artist and Bodyworker
We explored movement in many different ways with Amber. At the start André and I were skeptical, "rolling on the floor" can help us improve our Standard dancing? Amber guided us through the discovery of our bodies' functional anatomy and the power of repatterning. Our balance classes were a revelation. We had never thought that we would feel such a radical change in our bodies, all with the least effort possible! Thank you Amber. You gave us a second wind in our growth as dancers.
-Suzanne & André, Canadian Amateur Standard Champions
If you want to take the guessing out of your dancing, Amber's Mind-Body Ballroom classes are just the thing for you! Working with Amber, I am getting a deeper understanding and knowledge of the "why" and "how" of every movement, where movement is initiated and how it is performed most efficiently and beautifully without injuring yourself. I am more in tune with my body, which helps to make my dancing more natural, more organic.
The knowledge that I am getting is not merely notional, it is very much applied to the concrete steps in my dance routines. Having the knowledge has helped my partner and me to figure out the problems with, and significantly improve, some of the steps and figures, like pivots, fleckrl, fallaway, etc.
I am very excited to learn more with Amber and become a better dancer!

-Irina, Amateur Ballroom Competitor
This program has helped me immensely to have more joyful emotional experiences while dancing. Instead of pushing myself forward on the mental level, I learned to relax and let movement happen from the core of my body. This feels so much better and helped me gain confidence in competitions. Amber is a wonderful teacher: gentle, clear and very knowledgeable.
-Carna, Pro-Am Ballroom Competitor
With my background and experience in nursing, I understand the connection between mind and body, however, I had never applied its principles before. After applying it in my dancing, it has been a game changer.
-Karen, Pro-Am Ballroom Competitor
I had wanted to work with Amber for several years when she was teaching ballroom. When she announced that she was specializing in body awareness for ballroom dancers, I was intrigued and curious how she might be able to help me. I had no idea that our work together would have such a positive impact on my confidence (both on and off the dance floor).
Through her body awareness techniques I have become aware of my body in ways I never imagined. I am aware of how it reacts to the stress and excitement of competing and how I can change the energy so that I can focus, relax and have fun on the dance floor. Thanks to my work with Amber, I am improving by leaps and bounds and having the time of my life!

-Sandra, Pro-Am Ballroom Competitor
When an enthusiast of ballroom dance reaches a certain level, it is necessary to correct postures, movements, positions. With her experience in dance and her skills in movement, Amber helped me to understand how some of my muscles work and how to use them correctly, at the right time. Amber also gave me some tricks to help me relax in competition. Her advice has helped me to have a better frame, continuity between movements and especially, more enjoyment dancing in a competitive context."
Jean - Pro-Am Ballroom Competitor
